Established in 1957, Sate Kerang Rahmat has become one of the sought-after local souvenirs in Medan. The savory taste of clams combined with the delicious rendang spice has made this delicacy a favorite among locals, nationally and internationally.


This home-based business, located on PWS Street, Lorong Kerang, Kota Medan Petisah, North Sumatra, has been standing since 1957 and continues to thrive to this day.


In the morning, all the workers prepare the ingredients for making clam satay, starting with the best-quality clams and a variety of spices and leaves.


The clams are boiled first, then the spices are cooked together. After boiling, the main ingredient, the clams, is put into the wok and stirred until well-blended. After an hour, when the color of the clams turns a light brown, grated coconut is added to enhance the savory taste.


Suliyana, the third-generation owner of Sate Kerang Rahmat, states that every day the home-based business produces up to eight hundred skewers of satay, equivalent to 150 kilograms of clams.


Packaged in boxes, Sate Kerang Rahmat is a sought-after souvenir for those visiting Medan. Moreover, it can also be ordered online and has reached international markets.


To savor the delicious clam rendang satay, you only need to spend Rp.8,000 ($0,51) (10/11/2023) per skewer or Rp.160,000 ($10,21(10/11/2023) per box.
